There are 3 ways to install flooring. Nail down, Glue down and Floating. Usually you nail to plywood floors and glue to concrete slabs. Floors can be floated on both.
Engineered Flooring was made to be able to glue to slabs and be protected from moisture. This alone does not guarantee your wood is protected. Always seal your slab to protect your wood. Engineered flooring is also nailed to plywood and can be floated and glued together at the tongue and groove. The manufacturer recommendation needs to be observed for installation procedure for a valid warranty.
Concrete slabs should be checked for moisture in order to protect your investment and ensure no damage can come to your new wood floors. All concrete needs to be sealed to protect your wood. All paint and plaster needs to be removed, all high spots ground down and low spots leveled with self leveling cement (Ardex)
Solid flooring is nailed down and sanded. There are solid prefinished floors which are nailed to plywood. Solid wood should never be glued to concrete.
We sand all types of wood floors. Although on occasion there may not be enough wood left to sand or the flooring may be hand scraped. We need to look at your floor and decide what is best.
Your floor may only need a recoat. One coat of finish over your old finish to give it the makeover it desperately needs. Never put wax on your floors. This will repel the finish. The only way to get old floors looking new again is to sand them. We use oil modified polyurathane finish and water based finish. While sanding your floors we can put down large areas of stain for you to choose from.
